Both of Us

The tone of the songs is getting more serious now. The story is about a relationship that was always good from the start, but suffers from hard times. Influences from within the relationship and from the outside world put the pressure on and make the storyteller wonder whether it’s all worth it. Often he has to be strong for both of them, to withstand everything that comes on their path. In the end he draws the conclusion that it indeed is worth it, as their love and mutual bond will always conquer whatever may come their way.

The atmosphere of the song is somewhat folky, not in the least because of the Irish whistle Peter is playing. Originally a classical flute player, Peter brings this part of his musical personality to the Poets in addition to his piano/keyboard skills. Just you wait and listen…

Lyrics

Ever since the day I met you
I knew we’d never be apart
You feel the same way I do
You said you knew it from the start

Oh I never felt so good
I never felt so right
With someone new
Oh never thought I could
Never thought I might
Love someone like I do
But I do

Now many years have passed
We walked in sunshine and in rain
Life has put us to the test
Yeah we had our share of pain

Oh when everything went wrong
No matter how we tried
To make it right
I, I had to be strong
Keep my head up high
Keep up the fight
Into the light

Sometimes it’s so hard
To be strong for both of us
Sometimes it’s so hard
To keep faith

Sometimes it’s so hard
To be strong for both of us
Sometimes it’s so hard
To keep faith
For both of us

Oh I have no choice
When I hear your voice
It draws me back to you
And in my darkest hour
You help me find the power
To make it through
Together with you

Even though it’s hard to be strong
For both of us
You give me the courage and the faith

Even though it’s hard to be strong
For both of us
You give me the courage and the faith
For both of us
