The Road Ahead

This song is part of the “I’m Outta Here!” collection. I think we all have had that feeling once in a while: fed up, leaving everything as it is, going south and we’ll be taking it from there. I will not take the next exit home, but I will just keep on driving til the south of France. At the same time there’s this little voice inside your head: “no you can’t!”.
Desire and doubt are fighting for priority, but a breakthrough comes after a clear choice and a bit of perseverance. Or maybe not..?

Words & music by JeeWee Donkers

The road is stretching endlessly
To where the sun breaks through
It lures me to a better place
Takes me somewhere new

My phone is blinking urgently
In the corner of my view
It draws me back to what I left
Calls me back to you

(I Gotta)
Keep my eyes on the road ahead
To stop myself from thinking
Of how I got myself into this mess
Keep my hands up on the wheel
Stop myself from calling
And being overtaken by regret

I gotta take this lonely road
Once paved with good intentions
Drive on past Oblivion
Into a new dimension

This time was the last time
I keep saying to myself
That you’ll see me tangled
And trapped inside your net

Keep my eyes on the road ahead
To stop myself from thinking
Of how I got myself into this mess
Keep my hands up on the wheel
To stop myself from calling
And being overtaken by regret

‘Cos so much pain was hidden
And so much time was wasted
Up ahead a new life beckons
So sweet I can almost taste it

I Gotta keep my eyes on the road ahead
and stop myself from thinking
Of how I got myself into this mess
Keep my hands up on the wheel
Stop myself from calling
And being overtaken by regret

I gotta keep my hands up on the wheel
Prevent myself from calling
And being overtaken by regret
Keep my eyes on the road ahead
and stop myself from thinking
Of how I got myself into this mess
