LeWa archtop akoestische gitaar (jaren ’50)

I stumbled upon this fragile beauty in a local music shop, where she was up for a renovation. Unfortunately for him, the shop’s tech wasn’t able to fix her well enough, so she was selected for a wall flower existence in the shop. I bought her, as I saw some possibilities, and luckily I was able to revice her as a – very well playable – musical instrument.

After a couple of months playing, she has reclaimed her very own voice, which is gentle and parlour-like, and comes across the best with flat wound or half round strings. I use Tomastik Plectrum strings now.

An intern in my primary school used to play an f-hole acoustic when I was little, probably an Egmond or so. Ever since I have had an interest in this type of instrument. Lewa was a Dutch instrument manufacturer in the fifties and sixties, located in Gouda. LeWa stands for “van LEeuwen & van de WAter”, the two companions that made the instruments, along with mandolins and violins.
